Covenant volleyball team defeats Frisco Legacy

The Colleyville Covenant Christian volleyball team defeated Frisco Legacy this past Thursday 3-2 on the road in Frisco.

It was a see-saw affair of sorts, one that saw Covenant Christian jump out to a 25-20 lead and then drop its next game by a score of 25-11.

Covenant rebounded with a 25-15 victory in the third game, and then lost a hard-fought fourth game by a score of 28-26 to send it to a decisive final game.

The Lady Cougars won the fifth game 15-13 to earn the victory over Legacy.

Gazelles have strong season

The Grapevine Gazelle Track Club had a very successful season, including an appearance in the TAAF State Games of Texas track meet held in College Station.

The 18U girls 4x100 meter relay team finished seventh in the state with an overall time of 50.22.

Team members include Devon McGowan, 18, of Grapevine High School, Leisa Vanvooren, 17, of L.D. Bell High School, Megan Harris, 17 and Amanda Jones, 16, both of Colleyville Heritage High School.

According to a news release, “Harris capped an outstanding season by placing fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.05. Vanvooren placed eighth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.33.”

On the boys side, nine-year-old Jaden Jenkins placed eighth in the 10U boys long jump with a leap of 13' 8".

Southlake punt, pass and kick set for late September

A punt, pass and kick competition is set for Sept. 20 in the town of Southlake.

Participants are invited to compete against their peers for a chance to advance to the sectional championships and possibly beyond.
