Mansfield running back Emmanuel Esukpa ran over and around the Flower Mound Marcus defense on his way to 221 yards and three touchdowns to pace a 29-16 Tigers victory at Marauder Stadium on Friday night.

Esukpa was on his way to a solid game when he turned it into a big night when he sprinted 90 yards with less than four minutes left in the game and stretching a comfortable Tiger lead to 29-9.

The Tigers were in control most of the night but had to hold off a Marauders rally late in the third and early in the fourth quarter. Marcus squeezed the Mansfield lead to 15-9 when Marcus quarterback Andrew Parish came off the bench and hit Bryce Kubas for a 63-yard touchdown.

Mansfield came right back and answered the Marcus score when Julius Lewis sprinted 90 yards with the ensuing kickoff for a Tigers touchdown.

Esukpa scored on a 38-yard run in the third quarter to keep Mansfield in control. The Tigers kept it on the ground and never let Marcus get within reach.

Mansfield spent the first half doing a good job of managing the clock and relied on a steady ground game. Esukpa was the leader of a cast of six runners that took steady chunks out of the Marcus defense.
