Azle runs for 501 yards in lopsided win over Granbury

Seven players scored touchdowns for Azle as the Hornets opened the season with a 69-7 victory Friday night against Granbury at Hornet Field.

Hornets quarterback Jamie King accounted for two rushing touchdowns and threw for three more scores. He finished with 151 yards passing and 131 yards rushing, one of three Azle quarterbacks to top the century mark in rushing.

Running back Chase Smith gained 138 yards with a touchdown while backup quarterback Trey Ramos gained 112 yards with a pair of scores.

After Granbury tied the game 7-7 on Brenden King’s 77-yard touchdown in the first quarter, the Hornets scored 62 unanswered points. Azle scored on five straight possessions to take a 34-7 halftime advantage.

The Hornets scored on five straight possessions again in the second half.

The Hornets amassed 501 rushing yards and 652 total yards, along with 34 first downs.
