The Fort Worth South Hills Scorpions struck with the big play early and often in a 54-13 win over Joshua at Owls Stadium on Friday night.

Five of the Scorpions’ scores came on plays of 50 or more yards, including a 58-yard touchdown run by Thomas Nolley less than two minutes into the game.

South Hills (1-0) struck again on Joshua’s first possession when Owls quarterback Cayden Chambers failed to corral a poor snap and Jiwyan Gentry scooped it up and ran 40 yards for a Scorpions score.

Joshua (0-1) attempted to slow the game down by handing off to running back Ray Arriola. But the Owls’ defense had seemingly no answer for the South Hills offense, which tallied more than 500 yards of offense.

Sophomore quarterback Tracin Wallace led the Scorpions offense, passing for 167 yards and rushing for 94 more, including a 75-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Wallace connected twice with his twin brother Tylan, including a 48-yard score.

The Owls failed to get comfortable offensively. Chambers faced constant pressure from the South Hills defense and completed 7 of his 19 passes for 56 yards.

Joshua hosts Mineral Wells next week while South Hills plays Paschal.
