Quarterback Devin Williams scored three rushing touchdowns Friday night to help Mansfield Timberview muscle past Ennis 34-21 at Newsome Stadium in an early-season test for two teams with high expectations.

The Wolves broke open a tie game with two touchdowns early in the fourth quarter to take control. With the score knotted at 21-21, Williams found Myron Gailiard on a 16-yard scoring pass just 44 seconds into the period.

On the first play of Ennis’ ensuing drive, Craig Jim-Lawson intercepted a tipped pass to set up the Wolves at the Lions’ 47. Four plays later, Williams scored his third rushing TD of the night from 18 yards to give Timberview a 34-21 lead.

Timberview opened the scoring with a 12-yard run by Williams in the second quarter. It capped a 10-play drive that covered 76 yards.

The Wolves were gifted two points on the Lions’ following drive. Punting from the 22-yard line, the snap sailed over Brandon Martinek’s head, and he was forced to kick it through the end zone for a Timberview safety.

Ennis answered later in the second quarter with a 98-yard, pass. Taylor Thompson sneaked out of the backfield, and Devin Smith found him alone on the sideline. Thompson raced the distance untouched. The 2-point attempt failed, and the Wolves led 9-6.

Williams scored his second TD on a 3-yard scramble as time expired in the first quarter.
