Even with Johnny Manziel playing for the Cleveland Browns now, Jerry Jones remains wistful about not taking the former Texas A&M quarterback. A lengthy feature story on Jones, published Thursday, mentions Jones would have preferred Manziel with the 16th overall pick and that he gets “madder every day” at his son, Stephen Jones, for talking him out of it.

“Well, that was a little tongue-in-cheek with it, but I’m still mad at him,” Jones said after the Cowboys’ preseason finale. “I think I’m proud of that decision [to draft Zack Martin] right now, and I’m proud I was a good listener.”

In ESPN The Magazine, Jones said Manziel would “guarantee our relevance for 10 years.” The owner was asked Thursday if winning wouldn’t do more for the team’s relevancy considering they are .500 since 1997.

“The reason you take Manziel is to win,” Jones said. “We’ve talked a lot about the cache. We’ve talked a lot about the visibility. But I don’t think anybody has to back into the fact that this guy is a winner. He’s a proven winner against high competition. And so I wouldn’t distinguish any conversation I’m having about taking him or not taking him with the idea that if we have him, he’ll help us win.”
