Maybe Big Texas has sampled too many of the fried treats at the State Fair of Texas and put on a few pounds.

Or perhaps he just wanted something fresh to wear in his role as official greeter.

Whatever the case, Big Tex has a new shirt, designed and made by Fort Worth-based Dickies, an XXXXXXXXXXL that was unveiled Tuesday morning on the floor of the Cotton Bowl at Fair Park in Dallas.

The shirt, a deep navy featuring red shoulders with an inset white star and red cuffs, is in line with the State Fair’s “Texification” project that will include Texas-themed signs and flags at this year’s fair.

The State Fair of Texas — this year’s theme is “Deep in the Heart of Texans — runs from Sept. 26 through Oct. 19.

And the main attraction, of course, is the 55-foot-tall Big Tex, who was rebuilt last year after being destroyed the year before by a devastating fire.
