Monday was the first day of the 2014-15 school year for some 34,000 kids in the Keller school district.

Officials were expecting about 12,000 elementary students, 6,000 each in intermediate and middle schools and 10,000 high schoolers.

This will be a busy year for Keller schools as district officials prepare for a $169.5 million bond election in November.

The district also plans to launch a district-wide orchestra program and give high school students more choices with an extra class period for additional career and technical education classes and electives.

While district growth is slowing as the Keller area approaches build out, administrators still expect about 200 more students this fall.
