High school football

Seguin will be the first Arlington school district team to start the football season, as the Cougars host West Mesquite at 7 p.m. Thursday at Wilemon Field.

The next day at the same site, Bowie will open its season against a tough program in Dallas Jesuit. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

Arlington and Martin will begin their seasons with road games. The Colts will visit Duncanville at 7:30 p.m. Friday, while Martin is set for a match in Midlothian against DeSoto at the same time, though the Warriors will be treated as the home team. That game will be broadcast on tape delay on TXA/Channel 21 beginning at 10:30 p.m.

Lamar will open at Cravens Field on Friday night against Richland at 7:30 p.m. See for results.

High school volleyball

Arlington teams have only a little over two weeks’ worth of games until district competition begins.

Lamar and Martin begin their district run against each other at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 12 at Martin. On the same night and time, Weatherford hosts Arlington in those teams’ district opener, and Bowie will host Sam Houston.

Seguin hosts Waxahachie the same night at 5:30 to open district.

City leagues

Registration runs through August for city youth T-ball, coach-pitch baseball, kid-pitch baseball and outdoor soccer leagues, and adult leagues for softball, kickball and flag football. Registration for each league runs through August, besides adult kickball and flag football, which will register into September.

Other upcoming registrations include another round of youth lacrosse clinics and adult volleyball, basketball and inline hockey leagues.
