The return of Yu Darvish remains in limbo. The Texas Rangers ace has been on the disabled list with inflammation in his throwing elbow since August 14. He hasn’t thrown a ball while receiving treatment so his return from the 15-day DL on Monday is unlikely.

Rangers manager Ron Washington clarified an earlier statement when it sounded as if he was questioning Darvish’s will to play through pain. Last week, Washington joked that he also had inflammation. At the time, Washington said he expected Darvish to return on schedule.

“I didn’t mean it like that,” Washington said. “I just want him to go through the process and then we’ll evaluate as we go through the process.”

Washington hasn’t been updated on Darvish’s progress. He doesn’t think it’s “important” that Darvish returns to pitch for team morale purposes.

“I don’t know how to answer that without sounding like I’m making a negative statement,” he said.

Washington didn’t know if Darvish planned to travel with the team for a three-game series in Seattle that begins on Monday
