IRVING — Tony Romo said there is nothing he has to test or do in his final preseason game against the Dolphins on Saturday in Miami. If it were the regular season, he would play. The Cowboys quarterback is focused on getting his reps in the “official dress rehearsal” before the Sept. 7 season opener against San Francisco.Romo didn’t know how many reps or series he’d need, but he felt that was trivial to the offense’s bigger goal.“More than anything, you just want to execute as an offense and go out and do well,” Romo said. “We gauge a lot sometimes off of two drives. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s a little silly because in games you’re going to have 10 to 11 [drives].“We’ve just got to make sure that we’re consistently doing things day in and day out, but not go crazy over a drive or two, good or bad.”Romo said he and the team had a good week of practice and that he continues to have no limitations as he returns from back surgery.Dixon returns Former Baylor safety Ahmad Dixon is ready to play against Miami after missing last week’s game on punishment.Dixon wasn’t technically suspended for the Baltimore game, but he was held out by the Cowboys as discipline for being tardy to a walk-through practice the day before the game.“He responded better,” coach Jason Garrett said. “It’s an important week for him to come back and get himself in the mix and do what we are asking him to do. We have been pleased.”The one-game benching was a setback to the momentum Dixon had gained following an 11-tackle performance in the preseason opener against the San Diego Chargers. The Cowboys had planned on giving the seventh-round pick some looks with the first-team defense in place of J.J. Wilcox.Wilcox has since solidified his spot as a starter with a strong effort against the Ravens on Saturday.Dixon has learned his lesson and understands the difference between the college game and what it means to be a pro.“It’s different,” Dixon said. “When you’re in college, a lot of your coaches are more like buddies to you. They call and check in and making sure everything is all good, but here you’re on your own. Nobody is making sure you’re up. Nobody is babying you. You’ve got to do it all on your own and you’ve got to be a pro.”Weather talkThe Cowboys are targeting Saturday’s game as their dress rehearsal and that’s the norm for the third preseason game where the starters play longer than any time before the season opener. But Garrett acknowledges those plans could be altered by the impending weather forecast in South Florida. It could be raining heavily Saturday and there is even talk of a hurricane threat.“I don’t think you overthink it,” Garrett said. “Anybody who was a little bit of a question mark you probably don’t have them involved. Maybe they are not themselves to handle the conditions or maybe we are not going to get the evaluation we want from them in those conditions.”Garrett said the weather also could impact how long he plays his starters.Phillips gets workout• The Cowboys worked out former TCU linebacker Jason Phillips, but do not plan to sign him. Phillips was released by Philadelphia on Tuesday.
