Tony Romo: I’m ready for the regular season

Tony Romo says there is nothing he has to test or do in his final preseason game against the Dolphins on Saturday in Miami. If it were the regular season, he’d be ready to go.

The Cowboys’ quarterback is simply focused on getting his reps and work in in the ‘official dress rehearsal’ game before the season opener against San Francisco on Sept. 7.

Romo didn’t know how many reps or series he’d need, but felt that was trivial to the offense’s bigger goal.

“More than anything, you just want to execute as an offense and go out and do well,” Romo said. “We gauge a lot sometimes off of two drives. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s a little silly because games you’re going to have 10-to-11 [drives].

“Let’s pretend we had two drives or three drives this week and scored touchdowns on every one of them – it’s great. But you still have a full game to play and you’re going to have to continue to execute throughout the football game. So sometimes one guy will do something poorly and the series will end. Stuff like that, for us we just got to make sure that we’re consistently doing things day in and day out, but not go crazy over a drive or two, good or bad. Just keep doing it every day. It’s just not in the games. It’s in the practices as well.”

Romo felt he and the team had a good week of practice, and that he continues to have no limitations as he returns from back surgery.

Asked if there was a point he told himself ‘I’m back,’ Romo said: “I don’t think there’s a point. I think you just start feeling better and better, you test things out a little more and then you just kind of go be who you are and do what you do.

“Maybe there will come a time where I’m like: ‘Boy, I haven’t been able to do that in a while.’ But that part of it just hasn’t. No thought on that point where I’m like, ‘Boom! I’m back.’ You just continue to get stronger and stronger and stronger and doing things more and more and more and just kind of do it.”
