Cowboys owner Jerry Jones doesn’t deny a heavy interest in taking former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel in the 2014 draft.

He doesn’t deny being talked out of it by his son, team vice president Stephen Jones.

But Jones said the detail that Stephen Jones “snatched the Manziel card straight out of his hand,” as stated in a new book, “Manziel Mania” by Jim Dent, is not accurate.

“That didn’t happen,” Jones said on his radio show on KRLD-FM. “We’re well aware that there are a lot of people looking at us in that room. You’d think we could act a little more organized than that.”

Jones, though, said he did consider taking Manziel with the 16th overall pick. He just said it’s a misnomer that his son literally snatched the card out of his hand.

“Figuratively speaking it got close to that,” Jones said. “It certainly was a big debate going on at no place else other than my mind. There is no doubt it was a long thought on my part. Stephen certainly had his ideas. The rest of the room had other ideas. We had given this a lot of consideration in the draft room and out of the draft room with numbers of people sitting around talking about it.”

The Cowboys ended up taking Notre Dame guard Zack Martin. Manziel ended up with Cleveland Browns with the 22nd overall pick.
