A woman seriously injured after being shot by a Weatherford police officer Saturday night had pointed a gun at the officer, police said Monday.Officer J. Qualls had gone to the home in the 1300 block of Foster Street shortly before 10:30 p.m. on a welfare check after a woman reported to police that the resident there was threatening suicide. The officer was met at the door by a woman, later identified as 48-year-old Christie Gonser, “holding a holstered weapon in her hand,” police said in a news release Monday.“Preliminary investigations are that Gonser exited the residence, took the weapon from the holster, and threatened the officer by pointing the gun at him,” the release said. “The officer advised Gonser several times to drop the gun, and to not point the gun at him. Moments later Officer Qualls discharged his firearm resulting in injuries to Gonser.”Police and paramedics began treating Gonser at the scene. She was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, where she was listed in serious condition Monday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.Qualls is currently on routine administrative leave. Weatherford police and the Texas Rangers are investigating.
