Fort Worth starter Brandon Cowan gave up two runs in the first inning, then settled down and the Cats’ bats heated up en route to a 9-2 victory over the Brownsville Charros on Friday night at LaGrave Field.

Cowan (4-5) gave up the two runs on four hits in eight innings for the win in the regular-season finale. He walked two and struck out four. It was the left-hander’s longest outing of the season. Ronan Pacheco pitched the ninth to seal the victory, the Cats’ fourth straight over the Charros.

The Cats finished with 11 hits, all singles, including four in the second inning that produced three runs and a 3-2 lead.

Chris Martinez went 1 for 4 and drove in three runs. Adam Kam was 2 for 3 and scored three runs. German Duran and Oscar Garcia also had multiple hits. Garcia drove in two runs, including one during the Cats’ three-run seventh that put the game away.

The Cats open the best-of-five ULB championship series, hosting Game 1 tonight and Game 2 on Sunday, against Rio Grande Valley.
