Donations have brought the reward in the flag vandalism case to $13,000, police said Friday.

This week, Weatherford police have taken 16 reports about damaged, stolen or burned flags, a news release from the Weatherford police department said.

The Patterson Auto Group, a company with dealerships in Arlington, Wichita Fallas and Bowie, contributed $10,000 to the Crime Stoppers reward fund, and Roger Williams Chrysler-Plymouth-Dodge-Jeep contributed $1,000.

In most cases, the flags appear to have been taken from flag poles or homes and taken into driveway or streets where an accelerant was used to burn them, police said.

The reward is for information leading to an arrest or indictment.

Those responsible could face charges of destruction of a flag, a Class A misdemeanor, and arson, a second-degree felony, authorities have said.
