Cowboys cornerback B.W. Webb will not face discipline for exchanging swings with a fan during Tuesday’s joint practice with the Oakland Raiders. Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said the team would use it as a teaching moment.

"We address it with him, and then we move on," Garrett said Wednesday morning.

The first on-field fight Tuesday involved several players from both teams near the sideline. It escalated near the fence that separates Raiders fans from the field, and fans pushed and threw jabs at Webb before one punched a game-sized souvenir helmet at Webb.

Webb retaliated with a couple of wild swings into the crowd.

"Obviously, we’re not for it," Garrett said when asked about Webb swinging at fans. "But you know, if you look at the sequence of what happened, Mo Claiborne did a great job of coming up. We talked about the tempo of the drill being thud, and thud is you square up the ball carrier, and you strike him. Sometimes when you strike him, the ball carrier goes down. They certainly took offense to that, and then it boiled over right over there by that fence. That’s just the nature of it. At some point, you have to, as a player, defend your teammate, get yourself in there and make sure he’s going to be OK. Always have your guy’s back. That’s an important part of building a football team. At the same time, poise in that situation is important. I felt we demonstrated both and you kind of move on."
