Fort Worth Nolan Catholic and Dallas Bishop Lynch headline KTXA/Ch. 21’s High School Football Game of the Week lineup, which was announced Tuesday.

Nolan’s Oct. 17 matchup will begin at 7:30 p.m., and it’s the only Friday game this season that will air live. Both teams are part of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools.

The UIL doesn’t allow live telecasts on Friday nights.

“I think it’s great,” Nolan coach Joe Prud’homme said. “There are so many times that high school football, to me, is more entertaining than a college game. I think it will add to some excitement and exposure not just for us, but for Texas and Metroplex football as a whole.”

Prud’homme said Nolan and Bishop Lynch had to get approval from TAPPS, which has a standing contract with Time Warner Cable to televise games.

Nolan is the three-time defending TAPPS Division I state champion, and Prud’homme said KTXA also looked at Nolan games against Argyle Liberty Christian and UIL school Lancaster. He said KTXA chose the Bishop Lynch game at Roffino Stadium in Dallas because the facility is better equipped than Nolan’s Doskocil Stadium to stage a live broadcast.

Doskocil is currently under renovation and will be able to better accommodate television next season.

“But more importantly, it’s great to have this one on TV, but if you don’t produce inside the lines, it doesn’t mean a whole lot,” Prud’homme said.

For the third time in four years, the Euless Trinity-Hurst L.D. Bell game will air. The tape-delayed broadcast will be at 10:30 p.m. Oct. 9.

Arlington Martin will face DeSoto to kick off the season’s coverage Aug. 29.

The season finale is Denton Ryan-Denton Guyer on Nov. 7.
