More road closures and lane changes are in store for the North Tarrant Express as the project winds down. Most notable will be the traffic switch for northbound drivers on Northeast Loop 820 toward Texas 121/183 near North East Mall in Hurst. Traffic was switched to a left exit onto the new TEXpress lanes in mid-July, but at 9 p.m. Friday it was to become a right exit onto the main lanes of the highway.Motorists driving westbound on 121/183 toward southbound 820 will continue to use TEXpress lanes via a right exit instead of left “for a little while longer,” said Tommy Williamson, NTE's assistant public relations manager. The TEXpress lanes will be managed lanes, or toll lanes, when the project is complete, but they will be free until then.To the east in Bedford, all northbound and southbound lanes of Central Drive, which goes under 121/183, will be closed until 5 a.m. Monday. Northbound traffic will be redirected toward Murphy Drive and southbound traffic to Forest Ridge Drive. The NTE project, which runs from Interstate 35W in north Fort Worth to Industrial Boulevard in Euless, is about 96 percent complete and should be finished by the end of the year, Williamson said. When finished, the NTE will be the second massive road project in Northeast Tarrant County to be completed in the last year. The $1 billion DFW Connector project in Grapevine ended late last year. The Chisholm Trail Parkway, which runs from Fort Worth to Cleburne, partially opened in May and it is expected to be completed in September or October. And work continues on reconstruction of Interstate 35W, from I-30 near downtown Fort Worth to Northeast Loop 820, and is expected to continue until 2018. As part of that work, the I-35W northbound main lanes from Meacham Boulevard to Loop 820 were to be closed at 9 p.m. Friday through the night as contractors put down the final layer of pavement. Traffic will be rerouted onto the northbound frontage road.
