The Dallas Cowboys sat DeMarco Murray and Lance Dunbar, their top two running backs, giving second-year pro Joseph Randle a chance to run behind the starting offensive line.

Randle rushed for 50 yards on 13 carries in the Cowboys’ 27-7 preseason loss at San Diego.

“I was prepared for whatever,” Randle said. “It is the preseason, I know I was going to get a lot of work, and I was just trying to make the most of it.

“…Our offensive lined opened up some nice holes for me, and I was just trying to fill them up.”

Randle, a fifth-round pick in 2013, started two games a year ago. He rushed for 164 yards and two touchdowns on 54 carries in limited action.

He is readying for more work this year.

“I’m going to do some extra running at practice so I can get in better shape,” Randle said.
