Brandon Weeden’s debut with the Dallas Cowboys couldn’t have gotten off to a much better start. Weeden, starting in place of Tony Romo, completed 13 of 17 passes for 107 yards and a touchdown, a 111.6 passer rating.

Weeden was the highlight for Dallas in a 27-7 preseason loss at San Diego late Thursday night.

“I thought Brandon Weeden had good poise conducing some of those drives,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said at halftime.

Weeden played the entire first half before giving way to Caleb Hanie. It was his first game since signing the Cowboys in the offseason.

“It feels good to come out here with a star on your helmet,” said Weeden, a first-round pick of the Browns in 2012. “It's a dream come true for a kid from Oklahoma City."

The Cowboys, who trailed 10-7 at the half, were the first to strike as Weeden led them on a 11-play, 80-yard drive. Weeden was 4-for-4 for 54 yards on the series, including the 4-yard touchdown pass to James Hanna after taking a vicious hit from Lawrence Guy.

“It was good,” Weeden said. “We made some good plays. The offensive line played well, and we were able to run the ball effectively which gives us an opportunity to throw effectively. We had some good plays and were able to finish it off.”
