The Fort Worth Cats split a doubleheader with the San Angelo Colts to clinch second place and earn a spot in the ULB playoffs.

Sean O’Connell collected three hits to lead Fort Worth to a 3-1 victory in the second game Thursday night at LaGrave Field.

The Cats will face Rio Grande Valley in the playoffs.

Fort Worth lost the first game 11-3. Cats starter Brandon Cowan was knocked around for six runs in five innings. He walked four and struck out four.

Reliever Dylan Rucker didn’t fare much better, allowing four runs on four hits in just one inning of work.

Colts right fielder J.J. Muse led the offensive onslaught, collecting three hits and two RBIs while also scoring a run.

Sean O’Connell led the Cats with three hits in the second game.

First baseman Matt Chavez added three hits, and second baseman Derek Fox had three RBIs.

Shortstop German Duran and second baseman Cory Morales had three hits apiece for the Cats.

In the second game, San Angelo left fielder Austin Newell singled and later scored on a passed ball in the second inning to give the Colts an early 1-0 lead.

Fort Worth will again face off against the Colts at 7:05 p.m. Friday at LaGrave Field.
