Josh Brent met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Thursday in New York, and sources said the meeting went “well.”

It’s unknown how long Goodell will take to make a decision whether to reinstate Brent and if he will hand down a suspension.

If Brent is allowed to return, Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said the team will clear a spot for him.

Brent, 26, retired before last season and has not played since his December 2012 drunken driving wreck that took the life of teammate and friend Jerry Brown.

Brent was convicted of intoxication manslaughter and sentenced to six months in jail and 10 years probation. He has finished his jail sentence and is seeking to return to football.

Along with Jones, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett and players have said they would welcome Brent back with open arms.

Brent was a supplemental draft pick in 2010 and has played in 39 career games between 2010-12.
