Ahmad Dixon knows the best way for him to make an impression and secure a spot on the Dallas Cowboys’ roster is to become an impact player on special teams early on.

Dixon was an All-American safety at Baylor, starting the past three seasons, and will have a chance to show he can add depth to the secondary. But the best way for him to standout in his rookie season is on special teams.

“Oh, yeah, I have to,” Dixon said. “That’s what my role is here right now. I’m all for it. I’m a big team guy, so whatever helps this team win and make the playoffs and Super Bowl, I’m all for.”

Dixon, a seventh-round pick, feels he’s had a successful training camp so far and is excited to get his first NFL action tonight against the Chargers in the preseason opener. He has a list of things that he would like to show team officials that he didn’t in college.

“They know that I’m physical, they know that I can hit and run, but I didn’t get to show them some things in college,” Dixon said. “I need to show that I can play in the middle of the field and my coverage skills, my deep field skills. Those are important and I think I’m progressing very well.”
