FORT WORTH — More than 25,000 people showed up Wednesday for the annual Tarrant County Back to School Roundup, where more than 8,000 kids picked up free school supplies, some got haircuts and hundreds suffered through shots.The one-stop shopping event at Will Rogers Memorial Center’s Amon G. Carter Exhibit Hall had 10,000 school supply packets and passed out 8,800. The remaining 1,200 packets will be given to designated nonprofits and school districts with the greatest need.The roundup also offered health/dental screenings, immunizations, haircuts and information about education, health and social services. Tarrant County Public Health saw more than 250 people and administered 600 doses of immunizations. Seventy-eight children were fitted for free eyeglasses.Students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade received free backpacks. The roundup included music, activities and games.The first day of school for most area districts is Aug. 25.
