A confrontation that apparently began at a west Fort Worth doughnut shop ended in gunfire and the death of a 23-year-old man outside an apartment complex Monday morning.

The shooting occurred shortly before 9 a.m. outside the Cambridge Court complex in the 8100 block of Calmont Avenue.

No arrests have been made.

The victim, whose identity was not released, was at a nearby doughnut shop with his girlfriend when two men confronted him.

He left the business and the men apparently followed him. He was then shot in the head in the courtyard of the apartment complex, police said.

He was taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:59 a.m.

Robert Luna said he was in his apartment preparing to leave when he heard four or five shots.

“I looked outside real quick,” Luna said. “I just happened to see a dark blue truck turn around the corner there. There was nothing else. Everybody else was coming outside, too.”

Luna said he soon heard a person shout, “Somebody got shot” and glanced over to see the injured man in the courtyard.

“Some lady was going hysterical,” he said.

Luna said he was walking on the sidewalk when he saw a shell casing in the parking lot and pointed it out to an officer.

“I’ve been here over two years and nothing like this has happened before,” Luna said. “Officers show up for domestic stuff or MedStar has shown up for someone who needs to get to the hospital but that’s it.”
