Forward Tesho Akindele scored in the 49th minute as FC Dallas extended its MLS unbeaten streak to seven games with a 1-0 victory over Chivas USA on Sunday night.

Fabian Castillo and Blas Perez assisted on the goal by Akindele, a right-footed cross from the center of the box that found the center of the goal.

FC Dallas (9-7-6, 33 points) moved into a tie for third place with the Los Angeles Galaxy in the Western Conference. The top five clubs in each conference make the playoffs.

It was the third straight loss for Chivas USA (6-10-5), which is tied for last in the West. Chivas had won a club-record three straight before the downturn.

Raul Fernandez was credited with four saves in the shutout.

It was the fourth goal this season for Akindele, 22, who was selected with the sixth overall pick in the 2014 MLS Super Draft out of Colorado School of Mines.

FC Dallas returns home on Saturday to play the Colorado Rapids at Toyota Stadium in Frisco.
