The first day of school is three weeks away, but football and volleyball workouts begin Monday. At Fort Worth Arlington Heights, football conditioning starts at 7:30 a.m., with 100-yard sprints — 16 of them.“It’s the first thing we do,” Yellow Jackets coach Phil Young said. “We want to see who’s in shape and who’s out of shape.“I think everybody’s excited to get the grind of off-season and summer 7-on-7 done, and get in a football mindset and get coached again.”Young begins his second season at Heights. The coaching staff is expecting 150 players in the program this year, about 20 more than a year ago.“Our assistant coaches, all quality men, have worked hard on developing relationships,” Young said. “It’s all about trust and respect for each other. Show that, and kids will come out of the bushes to play for you.”While the Yellow Jackets got back in the playoffs last year — after missing in 2012 — a .500 record and first-round playoff loss leaves room for improvement.“This year it’s trying to pick up where we left off, with a little more focus and higher goals,” Young said.
