Cowboys guard Ronald Leary is returning to practice after missing the first week of training camp with a hamstring injury.

Leary went through this morning’s walkthrough and is scheduled to go through some individual drills in the padded practice this afternoon. Leary began camp on the physically unable to perform list and will have to be taken off the PUP list before returning to practice this afternoon.

“I’m going to do whatever the training staff tells me to do,” Leary said. “Whatever they say do, I’m going to do.”

Leary, 25, established himself as the starting left guard last season, but is competing for that job again with Mackenzy Bernadeau.

Coach Jason Garrett said there will be plenty of time for Leary to make an impression and win the job, something that Leary is fully aware of.

“It’s a long camp,” Leary said. “Mack is doing a great job and it’s competition. Competition is a good thing. At the end of the day, the best man is going to play.”

Said Garrett: “Ron has played a lot of football for us and he’s still a young player who needs a lot of snaps. We’re disappointed he hasn’t been able to get them this first week of camp, but he’ll be back out there. There’s a lot of football to be played before this preseason game and really throughout the preseason. So there’s plenty of opportunity for him to show up in this competition.”
