Brandon Weeden’s arm holding up

With Tony Romo missing his second of five practices, backup Brandon Weeden continues to get added reps. It prompted passing-game coordinator Scott Linehan to ask the former baseball player how his arm is holding up.

“I have a noddle arm, man,” Weeden said. “I can throw a football for days. I told him, ‘You go grab a baseball and a couple of gloves, and I’ll last about 20 minutes, and I’ll be on the shelf for a couple of days.’ Throwing a football doesn’t bother me.”Weeden, who signed with the Cowboys in the off-season, is getting more and more comfortable in Linehan’s offense. He took most of the first-team reps this off-season while the Cowboys were cautious with Romo’s surgically repaired back and while Kyle Orton contemplated retirement.

“It’s good,” Weeden said. “Obviously, [they’re] being very cautious with Tony and very, very smart. He’s got to listen to his body. So for myself, it’s good. If something were to happen, I’m getting reps with the guys that I’m going to be out there with. I can’t complain about that. I think I’ve done some good things. Some stuff we need to work on. I just need to get comfortable on a daily basis and that just comes with reps. So far through four or five practices I’ve done some decent things.”

Weeden, the No. 22 overall pick of the Browns two years ago, was 5-15 as a starter in Cleveland. He comes to the Cowboys at a low cost with little risk, having agreed to $1.23 million with no signing bonus.
