Cornerback Morris Claiborne had a forgettable second season with the Cowboys. He dislocated his left shoulder in the season opener, which limited him to only 10 games, and he lost his starting job at one point because of poor play.

Claiborne hopes that’s all in the past and he proves that he deserved to be the sixth overall pick in the 2012 draft in his third NFL season.

“I want to be great,” Claiborne said. “I want to be that tackling corner. I want to be tht cover corner. I want to be that corner who goes up and gets the ball when it’s in the air. I want to be an all-around player.”

Claiborne, 24, seems more confident and optimistic about his abilities too. Even the coaches can tell he’s approaching his business a little differently early on in camp.

“We highlighted him last night in the team meeting for his approach for a couple of examples going through the fundamental drills we were working on,” coach Jason Garrett said. “His approach mentally has been outstanding and I think it’s going to reflect in his play.”

Does Claiborne feel like it’ll be his breakout season?

“I hope so,” he said. “That’s my goal. That’s what I’ve been working for. No excuses, empty it out and I’ll worry about the consequences later. I want to leave the games with no doubts in my head. If I have to die out there, I’ll die out there.”
