Travis Frederick felt a certain energy aboard the Dallas Cowboys’ charter flight that left from Texas this afternoon and landed at the Naval Base Ventura County a few hours later.

“Guys are ready to go,” said Frederick, the second-year center. “We’re out here to work and we’re out here to make our team better. I think the team has done a really good job in the off season. I can speak especially for the offensive line and tell you that our group has put in the work and we’re ready to go.”

The Cowboys will hold their first practice on Thursday, two weeks before their first preseason game against the Chargers in San Diego.

The Cowboys go into camp with several question marks ranging from the health of quarterback Tony Romo’s back to finding a suitable replacement for linebacker Sean Lee. But optimism is high for the team to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2009 and finish with a winning record after three 8-8 seasons.

“It’s never too early to think that,” safety Barry Church said. “That’s our goal going into Day 1 of the off-season was to get to that goal of the Super Bowl. We have to get through that 8-8 rut and we have to make the playoffs first. It starts one game at a time and we’re just going to focus that way.”
