An Arkansas boy died Monday night after he walked out of the shallow end of a pool and collapsed at a North Richland Hills water park, officials said Tuesday.

Officials identified the boy as Ayden Best, 7, of Fort Smith, Ark.

Firefighters and paramedics arrived at NRH2O, 9001 Boulevard 26 in North Richland Hills, at about 6:50 p.m. Monday on the medical call.

Best’s mother told paramedics and park staff that her son had stepped out of a shallow end and did not look well. She added that he had a pre-existing medical condition.

Officials said that the boy had heart problems and had an internal defibrillator.

She sat her son down and discussed taking him to the hospital, officials said. When she checked on him again, he was unresponsive, officials said.

Best’s mother then yelled for help.

The boy was taken to North Hills Hospital where he died in the emergency room at 7:59 p.m. Monday, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office on Tuesday.
