High school volleyball

Preseason high school volleyball is just weeks away, with Arlington the first to take to the court in nonscrimmage play at 6 p.m. Aug. 12 at Flower Mound Marcus.

Martin visits Richland at 6:30 p.m. the same day, while Bowie visits Mansfield Summit and Seguin hosts Saginaw at the same time.

Lamar scrimmages that day and will open nondistrict competition with the Aug. 14 Mansfield ISD Tournament at various Mansfield schools.

Arlington Spirit youth soccer

A new youth soccer team for boys 15 and under, 1 FC Arlington Spirit, is still seeking a few players born between August 1999 and July 2002.

The team aims for a high quality of competition and will play its inaugural season in the Arlington Premier Invitational league, organized by the Arlington Soccer Association.

Games will be played at the Harold Patterson Sports Complex.

YMCA youth sports

Registration is open until Aug. 6 for the Arlington YMCA’s Enhancing Skills Y soccer camp, which runs Aug. 11-15 and costs $19 for full members and $75 for program members.

The camp is open to children ages 5-14 regardless of ability or experience. Players will be required to wear shin guards throughout the camp and bring water and snacks.

Registration is underway for fall soccer leagues for athletes ages 3-14.


Optimist Club youth football

Sign-ups for youth flag and tackle football through the Optimist Club of Arlington continue through Aug. 9, with activities such as equipment issues and first practices beginning around the same time.

Registrations are taken from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays at the Optimist Hut, 310 E. Third St.

Southeast Arlington Little League

The Player Development Program for Southeast Arlington Little League runs Friday evenings through Aug. 29. Cost is $125 for eight three-hour sessions.

Registration is open, and space is limited.
