Regional field coming to Northwest for summer wrestling

A Mid-Summer Mat Bash is set for Friday and Saturday at Northwest and will attract teams from nine states. The field includes 188 teams and is larger than the first year’s slate.

The team dual format will start at 9 a.m. each day.

Among this year’s entrants in addition to the host Texans are teams from South Florida, Kansas, Minnesota, Louisiana, Missouri, Nevada, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and five other Texas schools.

Fall soccer, baseball, volleyball and flag football sign-ups underway at YMCA

The Northpark YMCA is taking registrations for the fall soccer league for ages 3-14 through Aug. 15. The league will kick off the first games on Sept. 13.

Other youth sports taking registrations, their age groupings and sign-up deadlines: baseball (3-8 years, Aug. 22); volleyball (7-14 years, Sept. 5); flag football (4-14 years, Sept. 26).

Keller Youth Association’s fall sports programs for baseball is open until Aug. 18, while softball registration is also open.

Texas all star game has local taste

The Texas All-Star football game played on Tuesday in conjunction with the 82nd annual Texas High School Coaches Association state convention included local area talent.

Playing in the game held at the Alamodome in San Antonio were area standouts Ryan Parker, WR, Fossil Ridge; Matt McQuillan, DB, Central; and Duke Kicinski, LB, Northwest.

The game was set to play on tape-delay on Fox Sports Southwest on Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Tritons sweep regional swim meet

The Trophy Club Tritons swim team swept all the three divisions of the TAAF Region 4 swim meet held at the Keller ISD Natatorium last weekend.

Trophy Club won the Mens’ division, Women’s division and the Combined division.

The Granbury Seals picked up second place behind the Tritons in the Women’s and Combined divisions. Flower Mound was second in the Men’s grouping.

The Keller Barracudas were seventh in the Combined and Men’s divisions and finished sixth in the Women’s.

The top qualifiers will compete in the Games of Texas state swim meet in Bryan on July 31-Aug. 3.
