July in Keller is Parks & Recreation month, and the city wants its residents to jump, run, skip or swing into the summer fun with its annual “I Spy in July” photo challenge.

The program, in its seventh year, was created to encourage families to be physically active throughout the summer and to visit all the parks Keller has to offer, Parks & Recreation special events coordinator Hillary Dunegan said. Families can take one photo a day showing them participating in some kind of physical sport or outdoor activity, which they can submit to the city to earn points toward a prize.

The program runs through July 31.

The department’s website lists the city’s 10 different parks and gives the number of points for visiting each one. Some of the bigger five-point opportunities include running or walking a mile on the trails, having a picnic in the park, attending a class at the Keller Pointe or finding a historical landmark.

Dunegan said last year the families could submit a photo book or email their photos and the social media aspect is new.

“We wanted it to be easier for people to get involved and spread all realms of our social media,” she said.

The city has a photo album on Facebook for the program and also categorizes photos on Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram with the hashtag “#ispyktx.”
