New pastor named to First United Methodist Church, Weatherford

Rev. Stephen Schmidt has been named as senior pastor of First United Methodist Church, Weatherford.

He previously served for 12 years at Grace United Methodist Church in Copperas Cove.

In all, Schmidt has spent over 30 years as a Methodist minister.

Schmidt received his undergraduate degree from Southwestern University and his Masters of Divinity from the Brite School of Theology at TCU. He has served in several leadership roles for the Methodist conference.

He and his wife, Karen, will make Weatherford their home. Karen is an elementary teacher and a pianist. They have three daughters, two sons-in-law and three grandsons.

Schmidt preached his first sermon on July 6. The regular Second Sunday Lunch at First United Methodist was held in his honor on Sunday, celebrating his appointment.
