FFA students reap awards

Eighteen Mansfield FFA students under the direction of agri teacher Hannah Murphy competed in the Autobahnanza at the Will Rogers Memorial Complex in Fort Worth from June 11- 15. Autobahnanza is a youth scholarship expo and longhorn show sponsored by the Autobahn Motorcar Group.

The expo includes a livestock show for Texas Longhorn cattle, speech contest, essay contest, relay race, agri mechanics contest, trivia bowl, art contest and livestock judging, with $350,000 in scholarships up for grabs. With over 200 participants in the competition, Mansfield FFA brought home $14,425 in scholarships, multiple ribbons, two belt buckles and two plaques, one for the Herdsman award, which is given to the group with the best attitude, team spirit and biggest helping hand. The longhorn show team also came home with eight longhorn calves that were donated to the program.

Results for Mansfield FFA students: Kendall Gregg - $700 5th relay, 7th speech, 5th in class; Heather Denno - $862.50 2nd art, 3rd Ag mech, 10th speech; Britney Chambliss - $2462.50 3rd relay, 2nd art, 2nd in class, 3rd speech; Savannah Anderson - $3,750 2nd relay, 1st in class, 2nd speech, 1st in class, 7th in class; Isabel Gonzalez - $300 1st relay, 8th in class, 5th short course; Crystal Chambliss - Dana Bowman Leadership recognition; Hannah Twardowski - $100 10th in class; Mia Garcia - $3,300 Laura Harding Perseverance award, 2nd in class; Madison Looney - $1,250 4th speech; Madison Briles - $700 2nd essay; and Makenna Ruder, Blair Bynum, Ashleigh Norman, Ashleigh Meek, Meredith Harvey, Jade Byron, Beau Billings, Miranda Beardmore - participants.
