Geovany Soto addressed his teammates during a pregame meeting on Saturday to apologize for his Wednesday night arrest on a charge of misdemeanor marijuana possession.

“He was great,” manager Ron Washington said. “I think it should just be for the ears inside the clubhouse, but he was great.

“He’s a pro. I hope he’s ready to get past this.”

Soto was arrested Wednesday night by Grapevine police on suspicion of possession of marijuana under two ounces, police said. He posted $500 bail Thursday morning and was released from jail.

It is unclear why Soto was pulled over initially. The case has been turned over to the Tarrant County district attorney's office.

Soto has been on the disabled list all season after surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee. He was in the midst of a rehab assignment at Triple A Round Rock and had just been transferred to Double A Frisco to continue it.

The Rangers have notified Major League Baseball about the incident. Marijuana is a “drug of abuse” under baseball's Joint Drug Agreement, through players are not tested for it.

Players found using or suspected of using marijuana will be be referred to a treatment board, which will determine if a treatment program is necessary.

“I am embarrassed and would like to apologize to my family, the Rangers organization, and our fans that I was taken in on this charge,” Soto said in a statement released by the Rangers on Friday.
