For former TCU outfielder Boomer White, his decision to transfer from TCU to Texas A&M was a lifetime in the making.

White grew up surrounded by Aggies, including his grandparents, learning the tradition and devotion marked by the A&M fan base and attending football games.

Over the past year, White weighed his options while helping lead the TCU baseball team to its second College World Series appearance and decided he wanted to include being an Aggie as part of his college experience.

“I’ve grown up loving the school at A&M and everything about it, so I spent a lot of my time at TCU down at Texas A&M, either hanging out with friends or going to football games,” White said. “My brother is going there next year so I was down there with him. It was just kind of a decision that I made where I thought I was going to be most happy.”

White said he kept this decision to himself through his sophomore year at TCU and finally decided to make it known to the TCU coaching staff around a week ago. After attempts to sway his decision back to the Horned Frogs, TCU granted White his release, allowing him to pursue his options at A&M. White said he told TCU of his final decision Thursday.

“I told [TCU head coach Jim Schlossnagle] it wasn’t a baseball decision, it was a lot more involved, so there wasn’t really a ton he could do,” White said. “He wanted to give me every opportunity to come back and do everything he could keep me, and I just told him there wasn’t much he could do because there was a lot more than baseball involved with this, so that’s kind of what happened.”

White will sit out his junior season per NCAA transfer rules and be eligible to play his senior season. He will move from a communications major at TCU to a business major at Texas A&M, he said.

“Even if I have to sit a year, I’m not in any rush to get out and play pro ball,” White said. “If I’m going to spend two more years in college, I kind of wanted to do it at a place I was happy.”

While White said he hopes to find true collegiate happiness at A&M, he said TCU’s run last season to Omaha was one of the best times of his life.

“It’s nothing TCU has done wrong or against TCU, it’s just something that’s been on my heart for a school I want to be at to be happy,” White said. “Baseball has been outstanding and the fans were awesome this year. It was probably one of the greatest experiences in my life, but in the long run and looking further into the future, I just thought Texas A&M would be a better fit for me and my family and a place for me to start to call home and continue to after I graduate.”
