Success at any venture usually requires a short memory.

And with that mind-set, Miles Mikolas goes back out for the Rangers on Saturday first trying to forget what happened the last time he was on the mound.

Mikolas, 25, is set to make his third major-league start in a nationally televised game with the Angels. On Monday, he gave up nine runs on 12 hits in 3 1/3 innings in the Rangers’ 12-7 loss to Houston.

Mikolas retired the game's first three hitters, but yielded six consecutive hits to open the Astros' six-run second.

“One of those starts you forget everything about it,” said Mikolas, who added that he’s still adjusting to the nuances of the strike zone at this level.

“Even pitches that are borderline good-bad up here can still get blooped in there for a base hit, so you you have to be that much more in control of the strike zone.”
