FC Dallas tops Carolina, advances to Open Cup semifinals

FC Dallas clung to a one-goal lead for almost the entire second half before finishing off North American Soccer League side Carolina RailHawks with two late goals for a 5-2 win in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal match.

FC Dallas advances to face the Philadelphia Union in a semifinal Aug. 12 at Toyota Stadium.

Blas Perez scored the third hat trick by a Dallas player in Open Cup history, netting his third in stoppage time as FC Dallas ended the RailHawks’ 23-match home unbeaten streak.

Perez scored twice in the first half to help FC Dallas recover from an early 1-0 deficit, and Fabian Castillo scored shortly before halftime to restore Dallas’s lead at 3-2 after Carolina.
