July is Smart Irrigation Month and the city’s Water Utilities H2Outreach Program is promoting this by hosting the “Get Irrigated, Not Irritated” Workshop from 9 a.m.-noon on July 19 at the Bud Ervin Water Treatment Plant, 707 Pleasant Ridge Court. If you are irritated by the amount of money you have spent on your lawn this summer then attend this free workshop. Learn how the components of your irrigation system work from beginning to end, how to run your system efficiently and how to repair minor issues yourself with an above-ground demo irrigation system. It’s important to learn how to make efficient use of the available fresh-water resources by using only what you need. Conservation is crucial this time of year. This workshop will also include a demo for drip irrigation and a rain barrel building session. Each attendee will learn how to build their own rain barrel and take one home at no cost. You will have the opportunity to cool down with delicious ice cream as well as bring home useful irrigation tips. Everyone will be entered into a raffle. Half of the water you consume during the summer months is used to water your lawn. Did you realize that half of that water runs off into the streets? Overwatering is not only bad for your lawn, it’s bad for your wallet. Space is limited. Mansfield residents will need to register by July 18.
