Officials identify man recovered by divers in Lake Worth

A man who apparently drowned at Lake Worth on Saturday has been identified as Melchor Martinez of Oklahoma City, authorities said Sunday.

Officials with the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office identified Martinez, 38, on Sunday, but a ruling on his death was pending.

A Fire Department dive team recovered his body about 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the lake near the 4100 block of Tompkins Corner, about an hour after he was reported to have gone under.

He was at Lake Worth Marina Park in Fort Worth with his family when he went missing in the water.

Firefighters and city marshals searched for him before the dive team arrived. Divers found the body about 30 feet offshore in 6 to 7 feet of water.

He was apparently the first drowning victim of the July Fourth weekend in North Texas, officials said.
