The contract for guard Devin Harris that was taken off the table last summer got a bit sweeter Saturday.

The Dallas Mavericks agreed to terms with Harris on a three-year, $12 million deal, according to a source. The contract is similar to the three-year, $12 million contract the San Antonio Spurs gave guard Patty Mills last week.

NBA contracts cannot be signed until July 10 when the NBA moratorium is lifted.

With Raymond Felton, Monta Ellis, Gal Mekel and Harris, the source said the Mavericks are comfortable going to training camp with a solid core of point guards. Ellis is the Mavericks’ starter at shooting guard, but also played point guard last season.

The Mavericks now turn their attention to address their greater need at small forward, with Luol Deng, Chandler Parsons and Trevor Ariza heading the list to fill that void.

The source said the Mavericks are still in the mix to acquire Miami Heat free agent forward LeBron James.

The source believes Carmelo Anthony is going to re-sign with the New York Knicks, and that Anthony’s inclusion of the Mavericks on his four-city recruiting trip was nothing but a “charade.”

The New York Daily News reported Saturday that Anthony has been offered a five-year, $129 million contract by the Knicks and a decision could come within 48 hours.

The Mavs also are hopeful of re-signing their own four remaining free agents — Vince Carter, Shawn Marion, DeJuan Blair and Bernard James. But they are fearful of losing Marion, who has received some offers that may be outside the framework of what the Mavericks want to pay.

In addition, the Mavericks remain interested in Lakers free agent Pau Gasol.

Last summer the Mavs offered Harris a three-year, $9 million contract, but pulled it off the table when they discovered he needed to undergo surgery on his left great toe. Harris, instead, signed a one-year deal and has parlayed a solid 2013-14 season into a bigger payday.

The Mavs value Harris’ ability to effectively play both backcourt positions while also being a quality defender.

Harris, 31, averaged 7.9 points and 4.5 assists this past season in just 20.5 minutes per game while playing 40 games off the bench.

Harris became even more valuable to the Mavericks this off-season after they traded starting point guard Jose Calderon and another point guard, Shane Larkin, to the New York Knicks on June 25 as part of the package that brought Tyson Chandler to Dallas.

Briefly

• Heat: Team president Pat Riley met with free-agent forward Luol Deng in Chicago, a source told ESPN. Riley attempted to sell Deng on the benefits of joining the four-time defending Eastern Conference champions.

• Thunder: Oklahoma City signed top draft pick Mitch McGary, who spent two years at Michigan. The 6-foot-10, 255-pound McGary averaged 9.5 points and 8.3 rebounds a game last season.
