Plans for TCC

As we know, Tarrant County College’s plan to build a “stunning downtown campus” utterly failed from an aesthetic and fiscal standpoint. (”TCC will explore options for plant,” June 22)

TCC did partially redeem itself, at great expense to the taxpayers, with the acquisition of the Radio Shack campus and its buildings which are neutrally contemporary.

The announcement that the TCC leadership is just now now “exploring options” is interesting. It’s hard to believe that there has not been a carefully constructed plan in place for years to dawdle until the real estate market recovered and/or Panther Island awoke.

No matter, of course, what the consequences to the the historic old TXU plant might be with their demolition-by-neglect policy.

Consider the way land has moved between the TCC and other taxpayer-owned entities in the Trinity bottom over the years.

Given that, it may not be too large a stretch to assume that a deal has been done already to transfer the old plant out of TCC’s unloving hands and that the current rumblings are simply the overture to the main play.
