The agent for LeBron James has met this week with officials from multiple teams interested in courting the four-time league MVP in free agency, including the Dallas Mavericks, sources close to the process have told ESPN.

The exact number of teams to secure face-to-face meetings with Cleveland-based agent Rich Paul was not immediately known, but sources told ESPN.com that the Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets and Mavericks have had the opportunity to make presentations to Paul in recent days.

The Associated Press reported Thursday night that Cavs officials met with Paul about the free agent superstar’s possible return. The sides visited as James continued his family vacation. It was not immediately clear if owner Dan Gilbert was at the meeting.

James recently opted out of the final two years of his contract in Miami.

Sources told ESPN The Magazine’s Chris Broussard that Suns owner Robert Sarver met with Paul on Wednesday and pitched the idea of luring James from the Miami Heat to the desert by trying to sign Carmelo Anthony or Chris Bosh as well.

Kings add Collison

Sacramento got some much-needed depth at point guard and a possible backup plan if they lose starter Isaiah Thomas in free agency.

The Kings and former Maverick Darren Collison agreed to a three-year contract worth about $16 million, a person familiar with the deal said. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because teams can’t officially sign free agents until the NBA’s moratorium on moves is lifted July 10. The Los Angeles Times first reported the agreement.

Collison opted out of the final year of his contract with the Clippers that would have paid him $1.9 million next season.

Drew surprised

Fired Milwaukee Bucks coach Larry Drew said his swift termination came as a surprise. In a statement issued by his former team, Drew said his tenure was brief, but it will forever be memorable.

New owners Wesley Edens and Marc Lasry fired Drew earlier this week and replaced him with former Brooklyn Nets’ coach Jason Kidd.

Drew thanked former owner Herb Kohl and general manager John Hammond for the opportunity to coach the Bucks this past season. He also thanked the Bucks’ fans for their love and support. He says he wishes the Bucks’ organization and the city of Milwaukee nothing but the best in the future.

Briefly

• Hawks: Atlanta reached an agreement with free agent Thabo Sefolosha on a three-year, $12 million deal, sources told ESPN.com.

• Spurs: San Antonio guard Patty Mills has had surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder, a source told The Associated Press. The procedure was done Thursday in Dallas.

• Knicks: Kurt Rambis will accept a position as an assistant coach under new Knicks head coach Derek Fisher, league sources told ESPN New York.
