One way or the other, many letters to the editor such as the June 25 letter by Ruby Henley express the erroneous mantra “George Bush’s lies led us to invade Iraq.”

Here are the facts that anyone can verify:

H.J.Res. 114 (107th): Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq: Introduced Oct. 2, 2002, passed House, Oct. 10, 2002, passed Senate Oct. 11, 2002, signed by the president Oct. 16, 2002. This bill became Public Law 107-243.

Congress authorized the war in Iraq. Twenty-three Democrats were co-sponsors of the resolution, including Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Joe Biden and Harry Reid.

Many Americans believe in retrospect that the war in Iraq was not worth the cost, but to exclusively blame George Bush for the war is disingenuous.
