Grand Prairie police were searching Wednesday for a 55-year-old homeless man in the fatal stabbing of man found on a street earlier in the day.

Guadalupe Tanguma, 47, was pronounced dead at Methodist Dallas Medical Center, authorities said.

Grand Prairie police got a 911 call about 1:10 a.m. Wednesday about a man on the roadway at Beltline Road near Palace Parkway. Tanguma appeared to have been stabbed in the chest, officers reported.

Police searched a nearby wooded area, where investigators believe that the assault occurred. Based on items found there and witness accounts, police obtained a murder warrant for Billy Wayne Jarrett, a homeless man who frequents the area.

Jarrett is described as 5 feet 9 and about 180 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call the major crimes hotline at 972-237-8877.
