The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has announced its 2013-14 Academic Student-Athlete Awards, and three Weatherford College competitors are on the prestigious list.

Softball player Courtney Duplechin earned the Superior Academic Achievement Award, basketball player Kaylee Brooks won the Exemplary Academic Achievement Award and softball player Bailee Wortham is also an Exemplary Academic Achievement Award winner.

More than 58,000 individuals compete each year under the banner of the NJCAA, and only 3.08 percent, or 1,799 student-athletes, are recognized with these academic awards for their achievements in the classroom.

Duplechin, a utility player from Corinth, earned a 3.9 GPA while competing for the Coyotes. She is transferring to the University of North Texas after two years at WC.

Brooks is a Weatherford High School graduate and played guard for two seasons at WC. She earned a 3.63 GPA this past year and will transfer to Texas Woman’s University in Denton.

Wortham, a pitcher from Fort Worth Western Hills, earned a spot on the award roster with a 3.69 GPA. She is continuing her softball career next year at Texas Woman’s University.
